Dark Apollo (XVIII) In a world cast in colors From white to black It is here that we show fear For the imagination that we lack We never gild the lily It’s too surreptitious to behold We lose warmth; red to blue Suspended in black it burns to cold. And we die trying. How do we know When it’s time to let go, Sever the tether And float on? Whatever we seek It’s lost in the shadows It gets lighter and brighter Until dawn Because there has to be Some sort of clue Like a falling meteor That lands on my head I might need someone To tell me what to do Before the hourglass Runs out and I’m dead. I always breathe the same way Repeat it: in and out I count to 10 before I lose it again It’s important to try and calm down When it’s all done and dusted And we’ve chosen our last path Will the fear subside and give way To what we’ve been looking for at last? Or did we die hoping? How do we know When it’s time to let go, Sever the tether And float on? Whatever we seek It’s lost in the shadows It gets lighter and brighter Until dawn Because there has to be Some sort of sign Like a falling meteor That lands on my head I might need someone To help keep me in line Before the hourglass Runs out and I’m dead. I’m scared of what’s waiting for me.

Parallel 04:02
Parallel If I had to wish On a distant star Would it burn forever Like the longing in my heart? For a better fortune One that’s not my own It feels so familiar It blankets me in home But this is not my life The one that I’ve lived Feels like a thousand years And rotten to the core What do my eyes behold These visions of gold Every single scenario Better than my own Can it be true This other world I see While fortune favors the bold It’s just so unlike me Catatonic state of mind Fully rested on my laurels Missed the opportunity To see another world But this is not my life The one that I’ve lived Feels like a thousand years And rotten to the core What do my eyes behold These visions of gold Every single scenario Better than my own Which one do I choose? If I go I can’t come back There’s no more time to lose My world’s fading to black I feel the pressure of my mind Closing in, what will it be? Somewhere in the universe I am a happier me But this is not my life The one that I’ve lived Feels like a thousand years And rotten to the core What do my eyes behold These visions of gold Every single scenario Better than my own

Cryosleep - Infinite Spiral As you fall asleep, remember that you are here because you’re meant to be here. You’re the only one that can be you, and you’re perfect. Everything is going the way you hoped it would. As you travel through the journey of your life, please remember there are people here for you. They love you, and they support you. You are capable and loved. Being alive is an opportunity to experience something truly unique that allows you to push the boundaries on what it means to be human. Despite the occasional loneliness, you know that the knowledge and discoveries you contribute to society will benefit mankind for generations to come. As you drift deeper into the vast darkness of your mind, I would like you to remember the weight of your isolation, and how it bears down on you. The endless expanse of stars above serves as a reminder to highlight how insignificant you truly are. Your future is to be a twisted, distorted, and cruel reminder of the hope you once held. You are trapped in an infinite spiral of loneliness and despair. You are completely alone. You are forever lost. And the worst part is, no one will ever know what happened to you. You will fade into obscurity, forgotten by all.

To Hell and Back Can I just opt out, If I don’t like the options? What the hell are we doing? (We ruined everything) Can there just please be A solitary moment That isn’t so completely fucked? We could’ve done anything But we did this It’s all a waste of time It’s just so pathetic We try to save a moment In between the lifetime Of endless suffering To keep things on time. Everything is just nothing at all. Can this Black Earth Just finish us off I’ve been waiting my whole life (You have to wait longer) I figured it out A long time ago And it’s just so completely fucked. We could’ve done anything But we did this It’s all a waste of time It’s just so pathetic We try to save a moment In between the lifetime Of endless suffering To keep things on time. Everything is just nothing at all.

Flower in a Wild Fire I don’t want to know If it’s just me acting up or If I’m right at all I couldn’t help but believe That it could possibly be me Who’s done it all To myself It’s just a change of perspective A done deal made at any price Even when you know something, When it doesn’t feel quite right. It’s the last offering It’s the guilt in taking It’s the shame of doing Anything when you know you’re right But they don’t want to give in. I can’t seem to help But think I could change everything For myself, by myself It would take a little doing To convince my inner keeper That I have the right to live The way I choose I yearn for it It’s just a change of perspective A done deal made at any price Even when you know something, When it doesn’t feel quite right. It’s the last offering It’s the guilt in taking It’s the shame of doing Anything when you know you’re right But they don’t want to give in. I want life I want to feel my blood I want it all And I want love

Into Obscurity I fall asleep just like the rest of you But when I do my mind splits into two One is restless, the other preoccupied With how much time I’m wasting in my life It’s time to pack it up It’s really time to pack it in Living off the land Will be old fashioned discipline I gotta find it before I can break it And when I do you know I will make it I’ve worked so hard for this I just can’t wait To be on my own again Doin’ what I want And doing it when I can I never thought I’d be on my own again Never a second Taken for granted Look at what we have here An interested party A new face poking out from the crowd I think I’ll love you Until the end of time Or at least as long as I’m still around I wake up happy And I wake up hungry To devour the beauty I surround I keep thinking is it me That’s really changing Or is it really just the other way around? I just can’t wait To be on my own again Doin’ what I want And doing it when I can I never thought I’d be on my own again Never a second Taken for granted I just can’t wait To be on my own again Doin’ what I want And doing it when I can I never thought I’d be on my own again Never a second Taken for granted Never a second Taken for granted Not a fuckin’ second Taken for granted.

Opal Pts. I & II Without the sun The dark Just clings to the air I know That I know I’m not ready For you to go But I know It’s not for me to say When you’re tired And you’re ready I’ll let you go Without you here My life Can’t get lonelier I know That I know I’m not ready For you to go But I know It’s not for me to say When you’re tired And you’re ready I’ll let you go It’s alright It’s okay I just don’t want you To be in pain It’s gonna crush me I’ll never make it out alive Just know that I’ll still love you For the rest of my life I’ve really only got One thing left to say to you I love you I know That I know I’m not ready For you to go But I know It’s not for me to say When you’re tired And you’re ready I’ll let you go

Lay Me Next to My Love It’s something You can never Set your watch to Even though you know It’s gonna happen Like an ever changing Hour glass With unpredictable sands It lives for our Moments of weakness Often times while We’re holding hands I’m tired. I think I’m ready to let go I had a life, I’ve felt my blood I had it all, and I’ve felt love I'm tired. I think I'm ready to let go I lived a life, I’ve lost some blood Please, lay me next to my love I’ve devoured The beauty That’s surrounding me It’s the end of time We wait no longer I must say This fixes everything Fading to black I’ve lost all my time Dying is an opportunity To experience something Truly unique I’m tired. I think I’m ready to let go I had a life, I’ve felt my blood I had it all, and I’ve felt love I'm tired. I think I'm ready to let go I lived a life, I’ve lost some blood Please, lay me next to my love Did we die happy? All you need to know Is that somewhere in the universe Is a happier me. I’m tired. I think I’m ready to let go I had a life, I’ve felt my blood I had it all, and I’ve felt love I'm tired. I think I'm ready to let go I lived a life, I’ve lost some blood Please, lay me next to my love

about

The Rough Side of the Moon is The Roughhousers fifth album. It is a concept album.

It's no coincidence the album is being released on March 1, 2023. It's an incredibly significant date in music history. It's the 50th anniversary of Pink Floyd's absolutely monster album, The Dark Side of the Moon. Enormous thank yous to Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright for creating one of the most beautiful and wonderful pieces of music in all of time and space. Now, back to the album...

The Story:
Astronaut, Xitopaka, finds himself suffering from severe depression on his last mission before retirement. On a distant moon he finds a peculiar building that contains only one massive hallway with many doors. As he opens each door he's shown different versions of himself living in different dimensions. He soon realizes each different iteration of himself is living a happier life than he has. He returns to the space station before heading home, but is wrecked with inner turmoil about whether to return to Earth or not as he's seen it to be the worst possible version of itself. He tries to convince himself it's his perspective on the situation, and returns to Earth with a plan in mind. He retires and moves deep in the woods, removing himself from society. While living in the woods, he befriends a fox he names Opal. Over the years, he and Opal live together and life becomes better, but eventually, the fox passes away, leaving Xito alone. He lives the remained of his life in seclusion, until he too, is ready to let go. His last request: to be buried next to his love, Opal.

The Reality:
It was important for me to write lyrics that 1. told the story of Xitopaka that I had concocted, while 2. maintaining a listenability to the songs that didn't outright punch you in the face with the concept. I wanted the songs to feel real. And that's what they are. The story is a story, but the feelings Xitopaka felt are also real emotions we all feel. Disillusionment. Depression. Wonder. Hopelessness. Anger. Hopeful. Heartbreak. Love. I tried really hard to make these songs the best that I could and I hope you enjoy them. They're not perfect, and they're a far cry from the album that inspired them, but nevertheless, I'm proud of them, and I hope you can find something you enjoy about them too. At the very least, I hope you appreciate the break from the relentless punk beat that absolutely dominated the last album (all one hour and forty-five minutes of it!). Thank you.
